Trivia[]

  • Spinax's genus name used in Fossil Fighters is Altispinax. However, for a time the vertebrae used to identify it were given another name, Becklespinax. Altispinax was then considered a nomen dubium (Latin for "doubtful name"), represented in the series by the fact that, while Spinax's genus is still Altispinax in Fossil Fighters: Champions, it is identified as Becklespinax on the Champions official website. After another analysis conducted in 2016, Becklespinax is now recognized as a junior synonym for Altispinax, making the genus originally used in Fossil Fighters and Fossil Fighters: Champions correct.
    • This is different from the nomenclature case of Shanshan. Coincidentally, both are Air-type vivosaurs.
  • Spinax may be given to the player as a starter in Fossil Fighters in reference to the history of Altispinax's taxonomy, as its bones were originally erroneously thought to belong to Megalosaurus, which was the first dinosaur to be given a name.
  • Spinax's dorsal spines likely reference Altispinax's unusually high neural spines, which are the extent of its holotype.
  • In the Manga, Hunter claims he can "hear" Spinax's voice, but this is never further explained.
  • Spinax is mentioned by Tilda: Hmm… See, now I think that cloud looks like a Spinax. Spinax has an Auto Counter ability that makes it retaliate strongly after taking damage. Kind of like how I’m biding my time until I can strike against a certain ex-boyfriend!
